How I Get Ready for House Guests

I am having my Mother-in-Law stay with us so I have been busy getting ready for her to come.  I thought that I would share with how I get ready for overnight guests.

The Guest Room

Make sure your guest sheets are clean.

Add a little Christmas decor

But not too much.

Keep it simple.

Make sure you take away your other decor before adding more.  Keep it Simple!

If you can, clear out some closet space for your guest.

Empty out a drawer for some of their belongings.

The Bathroom

Make sure you have plenty of toilet paper and it is easy to find.

Make sure you have clean towels and they easily accessible.

Add a cute hand towel

Provide extra toiletries.  I keep the ones from hotels and save incase someone forgets something.

Smell good – because my household cleaner doesn’t have a scent, around Christmas, I like to add peppermint essential oil to my spray bottle for Christmas time.

Plan a tablescape.

  2. I just started reading your blog and I love all your organization ideas I love to organize! I do a lot of the same things to prepare for my guests. I would love to use the Basic H products when I move back to the states I love how well they seem to work.

  3. We aren't having any overnight guests, but it sure sounds relaxing for your guests.

  4. We don't have a guest room, so my parents come to visit and stay in my daughter's room, where there isn't any extra drawers or closet space. I DO provide them with a luggage rack that I found at a thrift store for $5! They also get their own space in the kids bathroom that I've cleared out for them. We are having my teenage niece here too, but she'll have to sleep on the couch. I like all your extra goodies - I try to do the same with our guests and provide them with extra cup in the bathroom, etc. Thanks for the tips!

  5. We are not having overnight guests this year, for the first time in awhile but I do most of what you do, towels, sheets, an extra blanket, a throw, some books in the room, and/or magazines, and I also have the vanity stocked with toiletries like you do too! I don't put a candle in there becayse I worry someone might forget about it and that is too dangerous. Now, where do you get the essentyial oil???? I would love to do that too!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! Pinky

  7. Everything looks lovely. We live in 300 sq ft so we make reservations at a local Micro-tel for them and it works out well for all of us.

  8. I love your lists! So very cute. I think we were cut from the same cloth-down to the extra toiletries from hotels. I can't wait for my guests to get here. Everything is ready, although today I am prepping with a batch of chili, an even bigger batch of chicken soup and thawing out the turkey. I can't wait for Christmas!

  10. Your home looks so peaceful...a perfect retreat for a guest to enjoy. I like your idea of stocking the fridge beforehand too. My grandparents used to stay at a hotel at Christmastime and we bought them stockings and filled them as a surprise in their hotel room when they checked in. We also decorated their hotel room a little bit before they arrived for some festive cheer.
